After our 4th anniversary, I felt we were entering a new season in which God would reward us with good and perfect gifts. That was the message on Sunday – the time to be favored has come. Little did I know that on that same day, starting at 3pm, the Jews would be celebrating Rosh Hashanah, the beginning of their new year. Apparently, they take time to fast and pray on that day. Just as on several occasions in the past, we received a word in due season that was confirmed by the significance of the day it was preached on.

Two years ago, on 14th February, I preached on ‘love’ and even played the audio in which Bob Jones talked about his out-of-body experience where he saw the Lord asking people who were entering heaven: “Did you learn to love?” After the service, we learnt that some Christians in America were celebrating Bob Jones’ life and ministry on the anniversary of his death, even as they emphasized love and his out-of-body experience. Surely God was highlighting the timeliness and great importance of that message.

On 11th September 2016, I preached a sermon entitled Giving and Receiving. I used the story of Abraham giving his son as a sacrifice to God, and receiving him back in a figurative sense (Hebrews 11:19). Just before I preached, I learnt that it was Eid al-Adha, the day Muslims remember Abraham’s willingness to sacrifice his son. Obviously, God used that ‘coincidence’ as a sign that the sermon was in due season and of great importance.

Sometime last year, we talked about Salvation by Grace, a topic that cannot be concluded without giving tribute to Martin Luther. Immediately after the service, we learnt that on that day, Christians in America had started off the month-long celebrations that would peak on the day that marked 500 years since Luther kick-started the Protestant Reformation. That too was God confirming that the sermon was in due season and of great importance.

Sermon: Your Season of Rewards

At the beginning of this year, we learnt how God wanted us to tithe, give and save – in preparation for a financial crisis that Uganda will experience. When the service ended, Honest Kamikazi sent us a dream she’d had that morning in which people were being told to tithe, give and save. Once again, God was confirming that that message was timely and important.

This year on 3rd June, I preached a message entitled Martyrdom: Road to the Throne. I was amazed when on Saturday, the day before I delivered the sermon, the Lord said to me, “Tomorrow is Uganda Martyrs Day.”

I am saying all this to emphasize the seriousness of the message we heard on Sunday. Here we were as LAT, having just ended another year, beginning a new one. Unbeknownst to me, on Rosh Hashanah, the beginning of the Jewish New Year, when the Jews fast and pray, the Lord spoke through me about a new season of rewards and gifts and that we must fast and pray.

Interestingly, after the service, Arthur Tumukunde told me that on Saturday, he listened to a message by Bob Jones who said that on a particular Jewish holiday, he would pray and fast. God would then reveal to him the things He was going to do that year.

That is exactly what God emphasized on Sunday – we should pray and fast so that He can tell us what He is going to reward us with in this appointed time of favor (Psalms 102:13). When the time came for Israel’s Babylonian captivity to end, Daniel prayed and fasted for understanding about that season (Daniel 9). When God saw his seriousness, Gabriel was caused to swiftly fly to deliver the understanding Daniel sought.

Sunday was Rosh Hashanah for the Jews – and us. Now then, let us fast and pray just like the Jews, Bob Jones and Daniel. If you call unto God with fasting and prayer, He will show you the great and mighty things which are in store for you. He is saying, “Come up here, and I will show you things which must take place” (Revelation 4:1). I do not know why He is emphasizing the fasting component. However, because His wisdom far supersedes ours, let us simply obey Him. We shall have testimonies.
