This week, we celebrate 56 years since our country Uganda got her independence from the British colonial masters. Although some progress has been made, several mistakes have also been committed which could have been avoided if we had elected and supported the endeavors of the presidents God wanted in power.

During the presidential nomination period in 2010 when every candidate had to go to present their credentials to the Electoral Commission, I had a dream in which God told me that Museveni was His choice. In the dream, I was standing along Kampala Road when a convoy of cars passed by on its way to the Electoral Commission offices. I looked into one of the cars and saw that Museveni was the aspiring nominee. At the same time, I saw a crowd of born again Christians jubilating and praising God as Museveni’s convoy drove by. When I awoke from the dream, I knew that God was saying to me: “Christians should vote for Museveni because he is my choice for President of Uganda.”

That dream implied that although Museveni had ruled Uganda since 1986, God still wanted him to continue for another five years – making thirty years in power. You should remember that some years prior, the two-term presidential limit had been removed. Since God still wanted Museveni as President until 2016, it means (in my opinion) that even the lifting of the term limits was God’s will so that Museveni’s reign would continue, obviously for our good. Come 2011, Museveni won the elections.

When presidential elections came again in 2016, I remember telling God: “In the previous elections, you showed me in a dream that Museveni was your choice. Please tell me who I should vote for this time round.” A few days later, I dreamt I met Museveni who told me that he had found grace in the eyes of God. Before that dream, many authentic prophetic voices were saying that it is not God’s will for Museveni to come back as President. Those people were right. However, for reasons I do not know, God ‘changed His mind’ like He did with King Hezekiah (2 Kings 20:1-6), and gave Museveni more years to rule. In that sense, he had found grace before God. Based on that dream, I voted Museveni, and he won.

People say that Museveni has been rigging elections since 1996. I honestly believe that some degree of rigging took place. However, I am convinced that even if that rigging had not happened, Museveni would have won anyway because, for reasons I can only guess, God always preferred him above all other candidates.

It is highly likely that because we have spent a lot of time, words and energy fighting Museveni, we have not experienced all the good that his regime was to bring to our country. Our resistance of God’s perfect will might have cost us a lot.

This is not to say the Museveni is a perfect man. Other than Jesus Christ, all men have flaws and make mistakes, yet God has no choice but to use these humans. King David was such a person. Even when he committed adultery and murder, God still wanted him on the throne. This is also true of Museveni. Since 1986, he has not only done good things, but also bad things. However, if you believe the dreams I have shared, you will see that God wanted him in power for the last thirty two years. Therefore, what matters is how useful a person is to God’s eternal purposes, not how long he remains in power.

As we wish our country a prosperous future, let us start seeking God on who to elect as president in 2021. Thereafter, we should vote wisely based on “thus saith the Lord”. What I know for now is that Robert Kyagulanyi, aka Bobi Wine, is not anywhere near what God wants for Uganda. But if he stood for elections, he can win if Christians who do not care to know God’s will gang up with the ungodly.

Happy Independence.
