When Jesus walked the earth, He was fully God and fully man. As a man, He was the greatest that ever was and will be. For that matter, He is the ultimate pattern in all things that God wants people to become.

However, although we are all called to look unto and imitate Jesus, we too are expected to become patterns of good things as we grow in the Lord. Paul admonished Titus to be a pattern of good works (Titus 2:7). Paul was so sure of his personal Godly walk and conduct that he said, “Brethren, join in following my example . . . you have us for a pattern” (Philippians 3:17).

A few months after I got born again, my Muslim roommate at the University who previously was my partner in crime had this to say: “If only all balokole would become like Moses...” According to him, I had become a pattern of genuine spiritual conversion. Unfortunately, since then, I do not remember receiving a similar commendation. I must once again work out my salvation with fear and trembling. Not so many years ago, in two separate dreams, Jesus told two ladies – Mariam and Ssanyu – to imitate my generosity if they wanted to prosper financially. That means I had become a Godly pattern in giving. Unfortunately again, since then I have not heard the Lord referring to me as a pattern of generosity. It looks like I backslid and ought to pull up my socks.

God wants to provoke people into godliness by using us as examples; He really believes in us. Therefore, let us cooperate with Him as He transforms us into the likeness of His Son Jesus who is the ultimate pattern.

Abraham pleased God by his faith in Him. Therefore, he was made the father or pattern of all believers. He also walked with and became a friend of God – a pattern to all who desire to have a deep relationship with the Almighty. Moses was so mightily used of God that by the time Deuteronomy was written it was said, “Since then there has not arisen in Israel a prophet like Moses” (Deuteronomy 34:10). He became a pattern for the prophetic ministry. In his day, Moses was also the most humble man in the world (Numbers 12:3), yet again an example for all to follow. David was a very Godly king; all succeeding kings of Israel were evaluated using David as the yardstick.

We too, are called to become Godly patterns. We can become model fathers and mothers. We can become role models in business. In whatever field we have been called, it is possible for us to excel according to heaven’s perspective. When that happens, we shall automatically become reference points in God. Of course we are all called to become model Christians.

The world has many fake role models. God wants you and I to stand out as the authentic patterns to be imitated. If you desire that honor which is available to all, then cooperate with the Lord and you will become it – to the glory of God.

God bless you.
