Psalm 119 is all about the exceedingly great value and the benefits of the Word of God. Many of the lessons from Psalm 119 seem unrealistic and unattainable. However, the ‘unrealistic’ should become our ideal, and we can attain the ‘unattainable’ by God’s help – if we so desire.

Here are some of the lessons from Psalm 119 which really touched my heart as I read that awesome chapter of the Bible.

Nothing in this world compares to the perfection and beauty of God’s commandments (v96). They are wonderful (v129). We should never think that some portions of the Bible are not true; the entirety of God’s Word is truth (v160). As it is written, “Therefore all your precepts concerning all things I consider to be right” (Psalm 119:128).

God’s teachings should be better to us than all the wealth there is in this world (v72). We should love God’s commandments more than gold, yes, fine gold (v127). A day should come when we can truly say, “How sweet are Your words to my taste, sweeter than honey to my mouth!” (Psalm 119:103).

We should love God’s Word EXCEEDINGLY (v167). We should come to a point when we can arise at midnight just to thank God for His Word (v62) because we find it so wonderful. Imagine delighting so much in the Word that you even keep awake at night simply to meditate on God’s Word (v148). We must grow to so love God’s instructions that we meditate upon them all day (v97). A day must come when the commandments of God are so precious to us that we can sincerely tell God that, “Rivers of water run down from my eyes, because men do not keep your law” (Psalm 119:136).

When we esteem and live by the Word of God, these are a few of the great things that will happen in our lives: We shall be wiser than our enemies (v98). We shall have more understanding than even our teachers and the older folks (v99 & 100). We shall have great peace and nothing shall cause us to stumble (v165). God’s Word shall be a lamp to our feet and a light to our path (v105). And we shall live clean lives and not sin against God (v9 & 11).

Each one of us should ask God, “Open my eyes, that I may see wondrous things from your law” (Psalm 119:18). We should also ask Him to teach us the Word that we may keep it (v33). And definitely we should request Him to help us observe what He teaches us – to walk in the path of His commandments (v35).

Be blessed.
