During this coronavirus-caused lockdown of the country, I have deeply thought about the several millions of Ugandans who are in dire need of food and financial assistance. My greatest concern however is the Christians over whom God has made me an overseer. I keep wondering how they are faring materially and financially. I now understand to a little degree what Paul meant when he said: “. . . what comes upon me daily: my deep concern for all the churches. Who is weak, and I am not weak. . .?” (2 Corinthians 11:28-29)

I wish I had ‘I don’t know how much money’. I would beg every church member to tell me how much money they need on a weekly basis during this lockdown. I would then wire that money to them ‘chap chap’.

For now, I can only thank God for the little monies the church had saved over sometime and that which a few members sent in at the end of last month. Rachel our administrator is witness that most of that money is being given to our very own so that they can survive through this difficult season.

I will be honest with you: I now really look forward to the days ahead when the church membership will be so big. Then we shall – I believe – godly-ly collect large sums of money in offertory. A large percentage of this will always be saved, to be used later in times like this to help hundreds or thousands of God’s people.

In the meantime, as I wait for the billions to come in, I will endeavor to do the following:

  1. Faithfulness in giving to those in need, of the little the church has saved over time. The Bible teaches that those who are faithful in little shall be entrusted with more.
  2. Meditation upon the giving-and-receiving scriptures like:
    1. While the earth remains, seedtime and harvest . . . shall not cease (Genesis 8:22)
    2. There is one who scatters, yet increases more; And there is one who withholds more than is right, But it leads to poverty. The generous soul will be made rich, And he who waters will also be watered himself (Proverbs 11:24-25)
    3. Cast your bread upon the waters, For you will find it after many days . . . In the morning sow your seed, And in the evening do not withhold your hand; For you do not know which will prosper, Either this or that, Or whether both alike will be good. (Ecclesiastes 11:1, 6)
    4. Give, and it will be given to you: good measure, pressed down, shaken together, and running over will be put into your bosom. For with the same measure that you use, it will be measured back to you. (Luke 6:38)
    5. But this I say: He who sows sparingly will also reap sparingly, and he who sows bountifully will also reap bountifully . . . Now may He who supplies seed to the sower, and bread for food, supply and multiply the seed you have sown and increase the fruits of your righteousness, while you are enriched in everything for all liberality (2 Corinthians 9:6, 10-11)

God bless you.
