When the LORD delivered David from King Saul who was bent on killing him, David composed and sang a love song (Psalm 18) unto the LORD. David began this song with the words: “I will love You, O Lord, my strength. The Lord is my rock and my fortress and my deliverer.”

David chose, and vowed to love the LORD because He had saved Him from Saul and physical death. David’s response to the LORD his savior should be an example to us Christians. God loved us and saved us from Satan and spiritual death. Therefore, we ought to love Him. That is why John the apostle said: “We love Him because He first loved us” (1 John 4:19).

When we really understand the condition we were in before we got born again, and the literal hell-fire in which we were going to burn forever, then we shall love Him who dearly loved us by offering His only begotten Son as a sacrifice for our sins. We were dead in our sins, without God and Christ, having no hope. But in Christ Jesus – by His cleansing blood – we are now accepted by God as children. There is nothing greater than love that we can ever offer God in gratitude for saving us. Loving Him is all the ‘thanks’ that He requires from us. Hallelujah!

Therefore, let everyone of us choose to love God. The chorus below from Bethel Music’s God I Look To You will help you to voice your intentions to God. That chorus nearly brought me to tears on Monday as I sang it to the LORD.

I will love You, Lord my strength
I will love You, Lord my shield
I will love You, Lord, my rock
Forever all my days, I will love You, God
