Knowing the call of God upon our lives, desiring and preparing to fulfil it in accordance with the timing of Heaven, is all good – but not enough! We must also know, or constantly remind ourselves, that mere human strength and zeal will never accomplish the will of God. The ‘system’ is designed such that only by the Spirit of God can divine callings be fulfilled. Therefore, we need to daily yield ourselves to the Holy Spirit who was sent to abide with us as the Helper.

It is commonly said, and it is true, that God never calls us to do what we can do without Him. God will always require of us that which is beyond our human abilities. When we really understand this, then we shall always rely on His strength which He freely gives, by the Holy Spirit (the Helper).

When the Jews returned from captivity in Babylon, they set their hearts to rebuilding God’s Temple which Nebuchadnezzar had destroyed. They were required to rebuild the Temple in a very hostile environment. The people who inhabited the land of Judah after the Jews were expelled to Babylon were not going to idly look on as the Jews rebuilt their God’s Temple. God surely allowed these harsh circumstances so that mortal men would know that they needed Him to serve Him. That is why He sent the prophet Zechariah to tell them that, “Not by might nor by power, but by My Spirit” (Zechariah 4:6). Hallelujah!

When Mary (Miriam) was given the humanly impossible calling of conceiving a child without knowing a man, she was also told that the impossible will be possible by the Holy Spirit. “The Holy Spirit will come upon you,” said the angel to Miriam.

Even the man Jesus had to first receive the Holy Spirit, (which happened at His water baptism), before He could accomplish what brought Him to the earth. And it was not going to be different for His disciples. For He told them, “But you shall receive power when the Holy Spirit has come upon you; and (then) you shall be witnesses to Me in Jerusalem, and in all Judea and Samaria, and to the end of the earth” (Acts 1:8).

None of us is going to be an exception to what was required of Zerubbabel, Miriam, Jesus, the disciples of the Lord, and all the other people who fulfilled God’s will. We are all required to depend on the energizing of the Holy Spirit in order to fulfil our callings. That energizing happens in moments of communion with the Father and our Lord Jesus Christ. Therefore, we must never give up the discipline of fellowshipping with God. The more we spend time with Him, the more we shall be endued with the power of the Holy Spirit, and then we shall fulfil our divine callings – to the pleasure of Heaven.

God bless you.
