The genuine spiritual unity of the body of Christ, which we have this far achieved to a good extent, brings about all the blessings there can ever be. And unfortunately, but predictably, the reverse is also true.

The Bible says in Psalm 133 that, “Behold, how good and how pleasant it is for brethren to dwell together in unity! It is like the precious oil upon the head, running down on the beard, the beard of Aaron, running down on the edge of his garments. It is like the dew of Hermon, descending upon the mountains of Zion; for there the LORD commanded the blessing – Life forevermore.” What I glean from this psalm is that it is to our benefit that we dwell in unity. For where there is unity, the anointing of God that breaks every yoke is poured out on us to effect whatever deliverance we need. And, there – in unity – the LORD commands a blessing.

Before I continue, I must share a testimony: Just right now as I was putting a full-stop to the previous paragraph, my seven year old daughter Abigail, who has no clue of what I am typing, has interrupted me with a recitation of a verse she is supposed to rehearse as she does her school work. Guess what it is or what she just said to me: “Dwell together in unity” (Psalm 133:1)! Isn’t God amazing?! Surely by this ‘coincidence’, God is authenticating this message, and emphasizing that we should indeed dwell together in unity. When we do so, we shall surely continue experiencing His ‘commanded blessing’. Amen.

Back to what I was typing: Now, if instead of dwelling together in unity we get ourselves in discord, we shall certainly experience the opposite of the anointing and blessing that result from unity. “For where envy and self-seeking exist (this sounds to me like disunity), confusion and every evil thing are there” (James 3:16). Where unity is lacking, the devil will certainly have a field day – every evil work of his will be unleashed.

Therefore my sisters and brothers, seeing the blessing of unity, and the curse of disunity, let us continue dwelling together in true unity. As I said last week, this authentic unity is achieved, (and nurtured), when we are all awed by the glory of God, and constantly seek to glorify Him. That, I believe, is what Jesus meant when He prayed that, “And the glory which You gave Me I have given them, that they may be one just as We are one” (John 17:22).

God bless you.
