With every passing day, I get more amazed, and therefore thank God, for the role of the Holy Spirit in our lives. In this article, I will briefly remind you of a few things that the Holy Spirit accomplishes in our lives.

First and foremost, the Holy Spirit lives in us to continually let us know that we are children of the Most High God. It is written: “. . . you did not receive the spirit of bondage again to fear, but you received the Spirit of adoption by whom we cry out, ‘Abba, Father.’ The Spirit Himself bears witness with our spirit that we are children of God” (Romans 8:15-16). There will never be anything greater in all creation than being a child of God. And the Holy Spirit is in us to always remind us that we are that great – children of God. Hallelujah!

Secondly, the precious Holy Spirit lives in our hearts to help us communicate perfectly to our Father God in prayer. It is written:“Likewise the Spirit also helps in our weaknesses. For we do not know what we should pray for as we ought, by the Spirit Himself makes intercession for us with groanings which cannot be uttered. Now He (our Father) who searches the hearts knows what the mind of the Spirit is, because He (the Spirit) makes intercession for the saints (us the children) according to the will of God (our Father),” (Romans 8:26-27).

Being children of God, our dear Father wants to guide our lives so that we can live according to His perfect will, not being sidetracked by the Enemy. That very important role of guiding the children of God belongs to the only One that is able to do it – the Holy Spirit. Jesus said, “. . . when He, the Spirit of truth, has come, He will guide you into all truth,” (John 16:13). Prophecy, visions and dreams, are some of the ways by which the Spirit guides us. That is why it is written: “And it shall come to pass in the last days, says God, That I will pour out My Spirit on all flesh; Your sons and daughters shall prophesy, Your young men shall see visions, Your old men shall dream dreams.” (Acts 2:17)

The Holy Spirit also lives in our hearts to help us walk in holiness as children of a holy God. When in 1 Peter 1:16 God says that, “Be holy for I am holy,” He is not asking of us the impossible. He knows that we can indeed be holy because the Holy Spirit, Who He promised would enable us to keep the holy commandments, now lives in us for that very purpose. As it is written: “I will put My Spirit within you and cause you to walk in My statutes, and you will keep My judgments and do them.” (Ezekiel 36:27)

The Christian life would be a grave misery without the Holy Spirit. With no constant reminder that we are dearly beloved children of God, the Devil would convince us that we are his property! Without the Holy Spirit’s help, many of our prayers would be shooting amiss. Without the ever present guidance of the Spirit, our lives would be terrible failures. And without the Holy Spirit internally energizing us to live by the holy commandments of God, the children of God that we are would be living like the Devil, on our way to his eternal home – hell. But thanks be to Jesus, who upon His ascension did not leave us as helpless orphans, but rather left us with the Holy Spirit to help us in everything. Jesus said, “. . . I will pray the Father, and He will give you another Helper (One exactly like Me), that He may abide with you forever – the Spirit of truth, whom the world cannot receive, because it neither sees Him nor knows Him; but you know Him, for He dwells with you and will be in you. I will not leave you orphans; I will come to you (by the Holy Spirit Who is exactly like Me).” (John 14:16-18)

Thanks be to God, for the precious Holy Spirit.
