Jesus while on earth commended thanksgiving and desires that we should always return to give glory to God for all the good He does for us. And when we thank Him, something extra is added unto us (Luke 17:17-19). In 1 Kings 3, we see that Solomon's great sacrifice unto the LORD for making him king of Israel resulted in God granting him a wise and understanding heart, as well as riches and honour that he didn't ask for. Thanksgiving is the will of God for you and your children. Always endeavour to train them up in this way and where need arises, use the rod of correction.
