Last Sunday, the preacher reminded us that we are to take the trouble to prepare for whatever God has promised us. Oftentimes, that is the reason for the time gap between the receiving of promises from God, and their fulfilment. If we are not prepared to receive what God has planned for us, there is a big possibility that we shall mess up in the ‘Promised Land’, or we shall not do all that we are supposed to do with the fulfilled promise. Hence the great importance that must be given to preparation.
How then do we prepare? I believe there are two primary ways of preparing as we wait to receive what God has promised us. The first way is doing the obvious things related to the kind of promise that God gave you. For example, reading and studying around that which God has promised you. The second way is preparing as God directs you. This is the best way to prepare. For that matter, I will give it a little more attention.
I believe that we must prepare for what God has said He is bringing our way by waiting on Him to tell us how we should do so. He who came up with the promise must be the same One to come up with the preparation plans. The Promise Giver is the only One who knows the full extent of the promise, its importance, and its significance. Therefore, He alone knows what is required to prepare to receive it, and to steward it well. Therefore, after we have received a promise from God, we must inquire of Him for the preparation plans.
When we ask God to show us how we should prepare for what He is bringing in our lives, sometimes He answers us in very clear and dramatic ways like by dreams, visions, and prophecies. But oftentimes, God’s response is not that dramatic. In such circumstances (which by the way are more common), we will have to listen to our inner-man – the born again human spirit – to know what God is telling us to do as we prepare. This requires spiritual work. But if we are serious about preparing for God’s promises, so that we don’t mess ourselves up in the ‘Promised Land’, or so that we accomplish all the intended purposes of God with the fulfilled promise, we must be willing to do the spiritual work.
God bless you.
