Resurrection Sunday – the day Jesus rose from the dead two thousand years ago – is here. It brings with it the opportunity for us to ponder upon the great love that God had for us while we were dead in our sins. As it is written, “God demonstrates His own love toward us, in that while we were still sinners, Christ died for us” (Romans 5:8). For this, we should always be grateful to God.
The first thing we are to do in appreciating God for offering His Son to die for us is believing in Jesus as our Savior and Lord. After that, we are to love Him in return. Since He loved us, we should love Him in return. We love Him first and foremost by obeying His commandments, which by the way are not difficult to observe. “For this is the love of God, that we keep His commandments. And His commandments are not burdensome” (1 John 5:3).
If we do not love God, but instead willingly and habitually disregard His commandments, we shall be despising the blood of Jesus by which we were sanctified, storing up for ourselves a certain fearful expectation of judgment and eternal punishment (Hebrews 10:26-29).
This Resurrection Sunday, let us determine to love God, especially when we remember the great price that He paid – His Son – for our salvation.
God bless you.
