When after the Fall God told the serpent that his seed would be crushed by the woman’s Seed (Genesis 3:15), mankind began looking forward to the Savior. It seems like every woman hoped to be the carrier of that precious Seed. Indeed, the waited for Savior was the desire of women (Daniel 11:37).

Mary was honored by God to be the bearer of the long-awaited Seed. She gave birth to Him who was desired of the daughters of Eve, and called His name Jesus. Jesus lived, died, rose from the dead, and ascended to heaven. He is now seated at the right-hand of the Father. “To those who eagerly wait for Him, He will appear a second time, apart from sin, for salvation” (Hebrews 9:28).

Just as the women of old desired Him, we too now have a calling of desiring the Lord. Eve and the past generation longed for His (first) coming. We who are of the present generation are now also called to desire Jesus, to longingly wait for His second coming. To those who eagerly wait for Him by keeping themselves pure, He will appear to take them to heaven. However, woe unto those who will be living in sin at His return! To them the wrath of God will be poured out. Brethren, let us “wait for His Son (God’s Son) from heaven, whom He raised from the dead, even Jesus who delivers us from the wrath to come” (1 Thessalonians 1:10). Our calling is to desire Jesus like the women of old, and to longingly wait for His coming again. Above every other thing, we should love the Lord and ready ourselves for His return.

It is my opinion, informed by a casual observation of the lifestyle of Christians, that many of them are not really desirous of the Lord’s coming! This is very sad because Jesus is coming back to take with Him to heaven only those Christians who will be waiting for Him by keeping themselves unpolluted from the world. It seems to me like some Christians are bent on fulfilling what Jesus said: “Broad is the way that leads to destruction, and there are many who go in by it” (Matthew 7:13). But as for you, please make every effort to be among the few who are saved.

Then one said to Him (Jesus), “Lord, are there few who are saved?” And He said to them, “Strive to enter through the narrow gate, for many, I say to you, will seek to enter and will not be able. When once the Master of the house has risen up and shut the door, and you begin to stand outside and knock at the door, saying, ‘Lord, Lord, open for us,’ and He will answer and say to you, I do not know you, where you are from,’ then you will begin to say, ‘We ate and drank in Your presence, and You taught in our streets.’ But He will say, ‘I tell you I do not know you, where you are from. Depart from Me, all you workers of iniquity.’ There will be weeping and gnashing of teeth . . . (Luke 13:22-28)

God bless you.
