Yesterday I had a wonderful dream about our church supernatural numerical growth which God promised us many years ago. I thought of sharing that dream here this week but decided to reserve it for either the Thursday prayer meeting or the Sunday service. The reason for this was so that we could continue with the spirit of appreciation that characterized the last two Words for the Week, by appreciating Mark and Rachel Wamai.

The best employer I ever had was the renowned Dr. Moses R. Kamya, a professor of medicine at Makerere University. One day while I was having lunch with a friend in the Medical School canteen, Prof. Kamya came in to get something to eat and decided to sit at our table. The one word of wisdom among the many that he shared with us which stuck with me was: “It is not easy to find good workers.”

As a pastor at LAT, I have been privileged by God to have not just good, but very great workers – Mark and Rachel – to work with. Mark and Rachel are some of the few people I never want to imagine God taking away from LAT. If anyone wants to define dedication and devotion to God’s work, look no further than Mark and Rachel. The moment Rachel found out that she was to be our church administrator marked the end of her looking out for greener pastures. Rachel would now be holding a very good job, and earning lots of money. But she chose to dedicate her life to serve God in a small church that pays her peanuts, because she honored the will of God above what the world could offer.

Her husband Mark has a fulltime job at Makerere University. However, he is always ready to do anything at any time for LAT, and at no cost! He took it upon himself to be our webmaster, and recorder of our services. When I need lights to be switched on or off at church, Mark is the first go-to person. Even when I need the temperature in the hall where we congregate to be adjusted, I ‘run’ to Mark. And with many other things does he help us, and that very willingly.

Among those ‘other things’ that Mark (and Rachel) did for our church which many people do not know is that they took it upon themselves to buy all the snacks (drinks and previously, eats) that our children take at church on Sunday! This they did sacrificially for more than five years, before another church member offered! Now you can see what a pillar this Wamai couple is to all of us. That is why the dream I had this morning had to wait, so that these great servants of God can also be honored, just like the ones who featured the last two weeks.

Mark and Rachel, may God bless you so much for all you have done for us as a church. We thank God who found you good people, and planted you in our church. I for one will forever be grateful for you. And when God places big monies in my hands, I will always share them with you.

God bless you all.
