We need to understand that God has a central point from which every aspect of our lives operate, whether individually or corporately. That area is called “timing”. From the operation of that one word, lives can move forward with God or be hindered. Nations can advance spiritually, or regress. Life in the spirit realm has a timing to it just as life in the natural. Therefore it is vitally important for us to follow the leading of our spirit. We must learn that it’s not always right to move into action because it seems like the thing to do. This kind of obedience only comes with seasons of prayer and intercession.

What you just read is an excerpt from Roberts Liardon’s 1996 bestseller “God’s Generals: Why They Succeeded And Why Some Failed”. You see, it is not enough to know, and to desire to fulfil God’s calling upon our lives. We must also do the right thing God requires of us at the right time. That is why it is written that,“To everything there is a season, a time for every purpose under heaven” (Ecclesiastes 3:1). If we step out of God’s timing, and do things in the wrong season, we will either abort our divine destinies, or cause unnecessary trouble for ourselves and those around us.

The only way we are going to keep in step with God and therefore do His will in its right time is by constantly communing with Him. When our fellowship with God is healthy, He will always inform us, or we shall always discern His will for our lives in every season. We shall then be like “the sons of Issachar who had understanding of the times, to know what Israel ought to do” (1 Chronicles 12:32).

If we are really serious about fulfilling our ministries or callings, we must take the issue of communing with Him ‘very very’ seriously. Only continuous prayer, or fellowship with God, will enable us to know what we ought to do when, in addition to availing us the power to execute it. Liardon articulated this very important issue in the excerpt I earlier quoted when he said that, “God has a central point from which every aspect of our lives operate . . . That area is called “timing”. He went on to say that only seasons of prayer and intercession will keep us in God’s timing. Then we shall be like “the sons of Issachar who had understanding of the times, to know what Israel ought to do” (1 Chronicles 12:32).Then we shall fulfil our callings. Then we shall please God. Then He will reward us.

God bless you.
