Yesterday I attended my daughters’ school assembly at which they were taught to love God and to obey His commandments. This ministered to me in a special way because we had talked about the same thing at church on Sunday.

In order to show the children from the Bible that loving God by obeying His commandments is for their good, their Pastor (Irene) had them read out loud Deuteronomy 30:15 which says: “See, I have set before you today life and good, death and evil, in that I command you today to love the LORD your God, to walk in His ways, and to keep His commandments, His statutes, and His judgments, that you may live and multiply; and the LORD your God will bless you in the land which you go to possess.”The children therefore learnt that God blesses the obedient. Hallelujah!

Another thing that was emphasized to the children – to my great pleasure – was that they should obey God even when they do not understand why. This is because God, unlike them, has the whole perspective to everything.

Pastor Irene concluded that great lesson by telling the children that, “It is in your favor that you obey God, and obeying God is good for you.”

My prayer is that we adults should also take Pastor Irene’s lesson very seriously, just as we were reminded last Sunday. We should choose to love God by obeying what He tells us to do or not to do. Even when we do not fully know the reasons for His instructions, we should simply obey Him, knowing that God blesses the obedient. We must always remember that it is in our favor that we obey God, and obeying Him is good for us.

God bless you.
