Righteousness is biblically defined as doing what is right in God’s sight. When we discipline ourselves in doing what is right, when we practice righteousness, we are making an appointment with God’s blessing. As it is written, “For You, O LORD, will bless the righteous; with favor You will surround him as with a shield” (Psalm 5:12).

One of the acts of righteousness which God dearly loves and greatly blesses is genuine generosity. In one of my most favorite verse of the Holy Scriptures, we are taught that, “God loves a cheerful giver” (2 Corinthians 9:7 NKJV). In the AMPC version of the Bible, this verse reads thus: “God loves (He takes pleasure in, prizes above other things, and is unwilling to abandon or to do without) a cheerful (joyous, “prompt to do it”) giver whose heart is in his giving.” Knowing therefore that God loves (takes pleasure in and prizes above other things) a joyous prompt-to-do-it giver, let us choose to master, and to excel in the righteous act of genuine generosity.

A generous person will abound with blessings. Top on the list of the blessings a joyous giver will receive is the blessing of being loved by God in a special way (see 2 Corinthians 9:7). Hallelujah! Another blessing is increase. As it is written, “There is one who scatters (gives), yet increases more” and “The generous soul will be made rich” (Proverbs 11:24 and 25). The other blessing that results from being increased, is the opportunity of having more to give. And when you have more to give and you actually do give more, then you get to be loved by God more and more and more. This is beautiful! The other blessing for givers which I mustn’t forget is that those you give will with longing, or heartfully, pray for you (see 2 Corinthians 9:14). The list is endless!

The ball is in your hands.
