It is very important that Christians know what true success really is in the mind of God. The world defines success differently from God. As Christians we should go by God’s definition and pursue that alone, lest we end up in hell. The world will call you successful if you are rich or/and famous. However, God will call you successful if you accomplish His will for your life, whether or not you become rich or/and famous.

When a Christian embraces success as defined by the world and then goes after it, s/he risks losing their eternal life. Yes, they may achieve that success, but their eternal dwelling might be hell! This is why Jesus said that, “For what profit is it to a man if he gains the whole world, and loses his own soul?” (Matthew 16:26).

As mentioned, success according to the world is often “money”. Now, if a Christian goes after “money” in order to be considered successful, the spirit of the love of money will have captured him. I am sure that everyone reading this article knows the most important (and terrible) thing about the love of money which is: “For the love of money is a root of all kinds of evil, for which some have strayed from the faith” (1 Timothy 6:10). (Straying from the faith means forsaking the Lord Jesus Christ!)

Therefore, fight, by the Holy Spirit, the desire to be rich and famous so that the world esteems and calls you successful. Going that route is eternally suicidal! What you should do as a Christian is to pursue the success that is truly success before God – discovering and fulfilling God’s will for your life. Doing so might come with money and fame, as with Solomon. But if it doesn’t, just as it will be with many Christians, look beyond this world; there is reserved for you in heaven an inheritance that is incorruptible and undefiled (1 Peter 1:4). Abound in God’s will for your life, knowing that your labor is not in vain in the Lord (1 Corinthians 15:58). That is true success, and it shall be rewarded for all eternity.

God bless you.
