When the Israelites entered the promised land Canaan, they gradually adopted the cultures and traditions of the very nations they dispossessed. This was against God's instructions and warnings. The result of their disobedience had many negative consequences and eventually set into motion their journey into exile/captivity in Babylon. Now that we are in our promised land, God is reminding us not to conform to the standards, cultures and the traditions of this world.
