All those who pray would want to do so effectively so that they receive answers to their prayers. I will here briefly talk about fasting as one of the ways that can make our prayers effective. The rest you can learn from Hillary Turyagyenda’s Prayer Secrets series which is on this website.
Fasting is an essential tool for every Christian who takes prayer seriously. That is why Jesus did a lot of it, and that is also the reason why the early Church did not take it lightly.
When the disciples could not cast out a certain devil – yet they had been casting out several – Jesus told them that that kind of devil only departs by prayer and fasting (Matthew 17:14-21). Unfortunately, there is a popular contrary teaching rooted in the false hyper-grace doctrine that disregards what Jesus clearly stated.
More than a decade ago, I heard Suzanne Hinn teaching on prayer and fasting. She said that prayer is like a fire, while fasting is like oil that increases and spreads the fire. About seven years ago, I was praying about something which God had promised me in a dream but which was not happening. So I decided to engage fasting. On the first day of the fast, I dreamt I had received a gun with bullets that would reinforce the fight for that which was mine. God was showing me that by adding fasting, I had unleashed another spiritual weapon against the enemy in order to receive what He had given me in the spirit.
Folks, we need to take fasting very seriously. When we do so, the devils which are resisting our prayers and progress will surrender. This will happen because fasting is a spiritual weapon which makes some prayers more effective.

I am reminded of a dream I had in 2018. In that dream, I took a lady friend of mine to a preacher at his office for spiritual help. I then excused myself and left them together. When I returned, I was shocked by what I saw: the preacher was raping my friend on a bed. While in the sinful act, hundreds of other young ladies were on top of this one bed partying away on top of the preacher but oblivious to what was happening to their fellow lady who was pinned on the same bed. The preacher knew that I had ‘seen’. And I could tell that my friend, although in trouble, was feeling sorry for me because she knew that the preacher was going to destroy me for having witnessed the rape. I was so scared for my life; therefore I ran out of the building in the hope that I could get a ‘boda boda’ (public service motorcycle) to whisk me away from that area. However, I knew that almost all the ‘boda boda’ guys were connected to this preacher and therefore there was no way I was going to escape. But miraculously I did escape by walking through a not commonly used ‘panya’ (side road). Then I awoke.
When I shared the dream with my friend, I also told her that although I did not know that preacher in real life, he must be symbolic of one who was raping her financially. She then told me something ‘amazing’. She said:
You know what Moses? That preacher is ‘prophet’ Elvis Mbonye. I have been praying and fasting since Wednesday morning. On Tuesday, we were told that we should attend a Zoe Fellowship Partners Meeting on Saturday. However, since I have been struggling financially, I told God that I was going to pray and fast so that He can tell me whether I should continue partnering with Elvis by giving him my money. I told God that I needed an answer before tomorrow, the day for the Partners Meeting. Here you are telling me of this dream on Friday afternoon. By the way, I am fasting even right now. This is the exact thing I was praying and fasting about. By your dream, even when you did not know what I was going through, God has answered my prayer”.
That is praying and fasting for you. Very often, casual praying never gets anybody answers to very serious matters. It is only fervent praying that will get you to receive answers from God. One way of making prayers effective is by adding some fasting. Glory to God.
By the way, in the dream about my friend, the ladies who were partying away on top of the bed on which the (financial) rape was happening were, and are, symbolic of the euphoria and worship of Elvis Mbonye that is characteristic of women who attend Mbonye’s meetings. They are sadly blind to the evil state of their man of god and the filth in that place.
God is telling you, “Call to Me, and I will answer you, and show you great and mighty things, which you do not know” (Jeremiah 33:3). You can make your call to Him more effective by adding fasting.
