According to Biblical scholars, Ephesians 6:18 in saying that we ought to pray all kinds of prayer means that we should pray with "prayer and prayer". This suggests that all the kinds come down to two, namely a prayer and the prayer somebody prays after a prayer. The prayer after a prayer can be the prayer of clarification of what was prayed or it can be the prayer of arguing why there is good reason for what was prayed. It can also be the prayer of reminder or, even yet, the "real" prayer after prayers of edification (or building up) have set things up for it. By praying these two kinds of prayer, what one desires is achieved.
