When the serpent tempted man and he sinned, God immediately revealed a salvation plan for man which would entail the seed (Christ) of the woman crushing the head (authority) of the serpent (Satan). Henceforth the coming of the Christ becomes the primary theme of the Scriptures.

It came to my notice sometime ago that Paul tied every thing he told the churches to the return of Jesus. Then I realized that Paul was simply echoing the teaching of the Master who over and over again pointed His disciples to His return. But what had not really caught my attention was the fact that even the Old Testament (OT) Scriptures talked so much about the second coming of the Lord. (In fact, very little is said about Jesus’ first coming in the OT as compared to the second). For although Jesus defeated Satan at His first coming, it is when He returns that the final nail will be put in the coffin for the Devil. This is why great emphasis is placed on the Second Coming. For if the Lord does not return, then the Devil will remain at large; he will not be bound away for a thousand years in the bottomless pit first (Revelation 20:2-3), and then finally in the lake of fire and brimstone where He will be tormented forever (Revelation 20:10). We see, therefore, why Jesus’ second coming was or is emphasized in the entire Bible. For that reason, we also must place great emphasis – above everything else – on His return.

Now, although God and we His people look forward to the Second Coming when the Devil will be dealt the final blow, that is not the main thing to be accomplished. The most important objective of Jesus’ return is to forever dwell with us on earth. Immediately after the Great Tribulation, the Lord will descend from heaven and we shall be caught up to Him in the air (Matthew 24:29-31; 1 Thessalonians 4:16-17). We shall then go to heaven for a while in order to escape the wrath of God that will be unleashed on the inhabitants of the earth. As it is written in Isaiah 26:20, “Come, my people, enter your chambers, And shut your doors behind you; Hide yourself, as it were, for a little moment, Until the indignation is past. For behold, the LORD comes out of His place To punish the inhabitants of the earth for their iniquity; The earth will also disclose her blood, And will no more cover her slain.” Then when the indignation is past, we shall return as the Lord’s armies (Revelation 19:7, 11-14) to fight with Him in Israel against the Anti-Christ. Thereafter, we shall dwell with Him on earth. As it was in Eden when God used to come to earth to fellowship with man, so it shall be at the Second Coming, only that this time He will be, in the physical person of Jesus Christ, permanently stationed on the earth with us. Hallelujah!

By the way, Enoch also saw the Second Coming. Jude 14-15 says: “Now Enoch, the seventh from Adam, prophesied . . . “Behold, the Lord comes with ten thousands of His saints, to execute judgment on all, to convict all who are ungodly . . .” Even Noah saw it when he blessed Shem (the ancestor of the Jews) saying, “May he (God) dwell (when He comes to the earth) in the tents of Shem (the land of Israel),” (Genesis 9:27). As you might be aware, Jesus will be head-quartered in Israel during His earthly reign.

The Second Coming is everywhere in the Bible. And rightly so; it is of paramount importance. Therefore, we too must place great emphasis – above everything else – on Jesus’ return. We should never tire of thinking about it, and no human or demon should deceive us that talking too much about it is extremism. The day you ever fall for that deception will be evidence that you stopped reading the right Bible, for the Second Coming of our wonderful Lord and Saviour is “all over the place” in the Holy Scriptures.

God bless you.
